Collection: Victoria Day

Victoria Day is an interdisciplinary artist whose works communicate her experiences with anxiety, life as a woman, and as a mixed-race member of the Korean diaspora in Canada. Through intricate drawings, screenprints, and murals she examines themes of identity, gender, race, and perspective. Her affinity for repetitive, time-intensive methods of making allow for introspection that in turn fuels further artworks.

As she works towards the ever-shifting goal post of self awareness, Day has become consumed with the differences between our internal experiences and the way we are perceived by others. Obsessed with this duality, every new event is seen as a byproduct of the two modes of being aligning or clashing. 

Created in the height of pandemic stress, Manifesting and Languish can be viewed as the before and after of a figure wishing for better days. What you want and what you get might not align, so be careful what you wish for. Like An Object is a reminder that identities are living, breathing entities that must be cared for, tended to, and watched over. Treat them with kindness and hold them gingerly as they may break.
